Founder and Program Developer - Marlene Lear

She considers the needs of the whole person — body, mind and spirit — to achieve and maintain high levels of health and wellness. She believes that many people want to be more involved in managing their own health. Mirrabooka Health is committed to providing clients with information, support and encouragement to enable this to happen. This includes allowing time for clients’ views to be heard, and facilitating the use of combinations of conventional with alternative or complimentary therapies as appropriate.

MIRRABOOKA   AN ABORIGINAL LEGEND

There was a man – Biami – who was created by the Rainbow Serpent at the beginning of time. By the Mother of Life, he was given the power and responsibility to protect all the tribes of the Southern Lands from harm.

In due time Biami needed help in his assigned tasks and he chose Mirrabooka who was respected and loved for his wisdom and the way in which he looked after the welfare of the people.

Biami rewarded Mirrabooka for his good help by promising him eternal life. He was given spirit form and placed in the sky where he can be seen among the stars, stretched across the sky, still today watching over the people of the Southern Lands.

White settlers, when they arrived did not know it was Mirrabooka in the sky and named him The Southern Cross and his two eyes the pointers.

We are proud to name our health care business after Mirrabooka, and hope the light of his good Spirit energy may shine on us and our work.

We acknowledge and thank Oogeroo Nunukal and Bronwyn Bancroft for giving us the story in their book Stradbroke Dreaming (Angus and Robertson, 1972).
